The 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad runs from 15 to 27 September in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, with eleven classical rounds after the opening ceremony.
A record 400 teams are confirmed — 208 in the open section and 192 in the women’s — past the 380 of Budapest 2024. The United States is top seed in the open with Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So and Hans Niemann, again without Hikaru Nakamura. Defending champions India are seeded second, with Arjun Erigaisi on board one, Praggnanandhaa on two and world champion Gukesh on four. Hosts Uzbekistan, gold medallists in 2022, are led by Javokhir Sindarov.
