The race for the presidency
The first debate of the 2026 FIDE presidential election is set for 9 September, hosted by Chess.com. All three candidates — Jan Henric Buettner, Timur Turlov and Wadim Rosenstein — are due to take part and set out their plans for the federation.
In a separate decision, the FIDE Council rejected the Russian Chess Federation’s application to enter teams in the Samarkand Olympiad.
